Born in western Pennsylvania to an artist father, Brian became very interested in drawing as a young child and was encouragrd by his parents, who enrolled him in the junior arts program at the Butler Art Institute in Youngstown, Ohio.
Brian's adult career, however, was in engineering. He graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1963, and later added a M.S. in Civil Enineering from California State University, Long Beach in 1973. Brian was a practicing civil engineer in Los Angeles, California, from the early 1960'S until 2000.
In the mid-1970'S, Brian returned to art as an enthusiastic amateur. He studied painting and drawing at the North Orange County Community College, and with Don May, a noted California watercolorist. Painting outdoors has been a particular passion, and Brian has painted en plein air in and around Los Angeles, in the California desert, and throughout the Amish territory of western Pennsylvania.
Now living in Mount Pleasant, SC, he is painting the Charleston area as well as his well executed still lifes, which have a Cezanne like quality.
